Smoked Tofu

Pop these slices of smoked tofu into tortilla wraps, vegan burgers or serve as a side!

Ingredients

1 Block of tofu cut into slices
2 tablespoons Soy sauce
2 tablespoons Maple syrup
1 tablespoon Liquid smoke
2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
1 tablespoon Cornstarch
1 teaspoon Cold water

Instructions

Press the liquid out of the tofu (at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours).

In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, maple syrup, liquid smoke and vegetable oil and mix to combine thoroughly. Carefully pour the marinade into a zip lock bag, add the slices of tofu, close the bag, shake and leave for an hour. Flip the bag over half way through.

Heat a frying pan over a medium high heat, add the vegetable oil and carefully add the tofu and cook on both sides for two minutes.

In a bowl, combine the cornstarch and water, pour the marinade from the bag into the saucepan and heat until bubbling slightly. Reduce to a simmer, add the cornstarch and mix. Pour the sauce over the tofu to serve.
