Homemade Mincemeat
Tis the season to eat, drink and be merry which means the nation are treating themselves to a traditional mince pie or two this Christmas. We've made baking homemade mince pies easy with this recipe! We guarantee your house will be filled with the delicious smell of the festive season...
Ingredients
200ml
Brandy
225g
Soft dark brown sugar
1 cooking
Apple
peeled, cored and chopped into small pieces
100g
Mixed peel
125g
Butter
1
Lemon
finely grated & juice
Instructions
Add all of the ingredients (apart from the brandy) into a large pan over a low heat, allowing the butter to melt.
Continue to simmer for 10 minutes then remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool until room temperature.
Stir in the brandy making sure the mixture is thoroughly combined. Finally, spoon the mixture in to clean, glass jars to store or add the mixture straight to sweet pastry and bake homemade mince pies.
When kept in an air tight, sterilised container such as a glass jar, our mincemeat lasts up to six months when stored in a cool dry place.
You can also use rum or sherry instead of brandy.
